Virgin Gorda
Virgin Gorda on the Paradise Islands website. Virgin Gorda is the second largest island in the British Virgin Islands Group.
Virgin Gorda is 12 miles from the main island of Tortola
and approximately ten square miles in a long narrow shape featuring uninhabited
beaches a mountainous interior. It is generally considered to be the most
scenic of the BVI and less developed than Tortola.
Jost Van Dyke
Jost Van Dyke on the Paradise Islands website. The small island of Jost Van Dyke is just over 3 square miles (2,000 acres) with 150 permanent residents in the idyllic British Virgin Islands Group.
Situated a few miles north west of Tortola and a 20 minute ferry ride from West End which brings you to the main settlement of Great Harbour which features many Caribbean restaurants and a few shops.
Great Harbour is outlined by a reef offshore and steep hillside dotted with colourful houses. The Bay is nearly always bustling with visiting yachts and Jost Van Dyke is one of the most popular day trips from the main island of Tortola.
British Virgin Islands - Smaller Islands
Anegada
The island of Anegada lies 13 miles north of Virgin Gorda. Anegada is the only coral island in the British Virgin Islands chain (the rest are all volcanic).
The Caribbean island is eleven miles long and just three miles wide with the highest point on Anegada only 28 feet above sea level. The island is surrounded by an 18 mile long Horseshoe Reef which is popular with divers and for snorkeling.
Anegada has a number of fine white sandy beaches and is popular with tourist and
visiting yachts. The island is protected by the Horseshoe Reef and has a number
of beautiful beaches including Flash of Beauty, Bones Bright and Cow Wreck
Beach.
The interior of the island has many saltwater ponds, mangrove swaps and mud
flaps which are home to many exotic birds. There are also natural fresh water
springs. The main town is called the Settlement, located in the east end of
Anegada island.
Necker Island
Necker Island, Sir Richard Branson's private retreat in the British Virgin Islands. Necker Island lies between Tortola and Anegada. This delightful hideaway is one of the most idyllic places in all the Caribbean.
